Deposed CJ reaches Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry arrived here on Wednesday to address lawyers’ convention.

The deposed chief justice was accorded a very warm welcome by Peshawar District Bar members. Foolproof security arrangements have been made in and around Peshawar High Court (PHC) building where Justice Iftikhar would address the convention.

The deposed CJ would return Islamabad tonight after meeting with lawyers. Meanwhile, lawyer leadership has decided to visit colleges and universities across Pakistan so as to attract more support for lawyers’ long march. A delegation of lawyers would also meet business community leaders in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry is accompanied by Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Ali Ahmed Kurd, Aitzaz Ahsan, Hamid Ali Khan, Athar Minallah and other lawyer leaders in Peshawar.

Political parties have set up camps in the city and activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League (N) are present in deposed CJ’s convoy.
