DHAKA: Veteran ruling Awami League official, Zillur Rahman was named Bangladesh's new president on Wednesday after being elected unopposed to the mainly ceremonial post, the Election Commission said.
Rahman, 79 and the second most senior leader of the Awami League, replaces Iajuddin Ahmed. Chief Justice Mohammad Ruhul Amin will administer oath to him on Thursday.
